Anne and I have been searching for a sled to add to our decoration at the Salmon Lodge. After years of keeping our eyes peeled, we finally found a genuine Flexible Flyer on the "free" pile at a church rummage sale in Edmonds, Washington. Samuel Leeds Allen patented the Flexible Flyer in 1889 in Cinnaminson, New Jersey using local children and adults to test prototypes. Allen's company flourished by selling these speedy and yet controllable sleds at a time when others were still producing toboggans and gooseneck sleds.
Hello everyone,
This past fall we made a big addition to the Salmon Lodge, a sliding barn door in the loft area. The door closes off the hall leading to the upstairs queen bedroom, creating a second master suite. The door was custom manufactured by Crow River Creations in Georgia and then trucked to our full time home in Mill Creek, Washington. There we crafted the L-shaped oak header board and installed the hardware. We then hauled it by trailer to Bend. Cameron and his team at Manup Handyman Services helped with the install.
